Marvellous flowers on your terrace or balcony

Obviously, this Terrace-Rhodo is a perfect plant to give colour to your terrace or balcony. Place your Rhododendron in a sunny or moderately sunny location on your terrace or balcony and make sure it is slightly shielded from strong winds. Ideally, this Rhododendron is planted in a sufficiently large pot. Make sure the pot has a hole in the bottom, so that excess rain water can be drained.

Rhododendrons thrive in an acidic soil (pH 4 to 6). These potting soil mixtures are easy to find in garden centres. From March–April to October, give the plant sufficient (additional) water in the morning and/or evening when the weather is dry.

In the growing season, after the flowering period in May–June, it is recommended to provide your Rhododendron with additional fertilisers with a formula made for acid-loving plants.

After the flowering period, it is best to carefully remove the flower remnants, so your Rhododendron remains an appealing green, shiny, healthy plant.

Planting Rhododendrons in the garden

In addition, this Rhododendron is an ideal garden plant which will amaze you with its colourful flowers every year. Therefore, it is best to plant your Rhododendron in a sunny or moderately sunny location, shielded as much as possible from the wind. The ideal time for planting is between September and December, or February and April.

Planting: Ideal planting hole = (3 x circumference of the plant’s root ball) + 40 cm deep

Rhododendrons thrive in an acidic soil (pH 4 to 6). This level of acidity can be achieved in every garden: mix peat or spruce soil with the soil in the planting hole and add a bucket of water (of course, these mixtures can also easily be found in your local garden centre).

Next, remove the plant from its pot, slightly loosen its root ball and dip it in a bucket of water. Plant the Rhododendron in the planting hole and water the plant abundantly once more. Finally, put an extra layer of peat or tree bark on top of the soil; this keeps the upper roots from drying out.
